Burke County Roads & Bridges

Some of the Responsibilites:
* Grade roads
* Install driveway pipe on county roads
* Put up road name signs, stop signs, & etc.
* Issue timber permits
* Cut grass on shoulders of the road
* Cut bushes along the road


Addressing & Code Enforcement

Resposible for assigning new addresses and responding to concerns from citizens that affect the quality of life within the county, such as illegal dumping, overgrown lots or yards, inoperable vehicles, illegal moving, junkyards, dilapidated buildings, and etc. by enforcing the codes in accordance with the Burke County Land Development Code.


Administration (County Commissioners)

Responsible for Payroll, Accounts Payable, Financial Management and General Administration for the County and the Board of Commissioners. SPLOST PROJECTS, FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AND THE PROPOSED BUDGET CAN BE FOUND HERE.


Board of Elections and Registration

Conducts all elections and maintains voter registration records, list and regulations governing both.


Burke County Cooperative Extension

Burke County Cooperative Extension is a cooperative program between the University of Georgia and Burke County. The Extension program provides Ag producers with information on the latest technology, research, and marketing strategies; helps parents balance the pressures of home, work and children; and provides families with information on nutrition and food safety as well as providing youth with a variety of educational opportunities.

Fire, Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management


Burke County Museum

Museum of local history for Burke County and Waynesboro. Open by appointment and staffed by volunteers.

Development Authority of Burke County

Recruits new industry and supports expansion of existing industry for the Waynesboro/Burke County Industrial Park.


Facility Maintenance Department

Maintain buildings owned by the Burke County Board of Commissioners.

• Delivering Voting Machines


Magistrates Court

Magistrate Court's jurisdiction civil claims of $15,000.00 or less, county ordinance violations, applications for and issuance of arrest and search warrants, preliminary hearings, dispossessory writs. No jury trials are held in this court. Appeals from decisions in landlord, tenant and civil cases are made to the Superior and State Court.

This department is responsible for:

* Planning and Zoning for Burke County
* Issuing Building Permits
* Issuing Electrical Permits

Senior Citizens Center

Burke County Contracts with the CSRA EOA to operate its Senior Centers


Sheriff's Office

Provides Law Enforcement services for Burke County, supports the Court System and operates the County Jail


Solid Waste

Responsible for collection of solid waste from dumpsters around the county and disposal of waste via the Burke County Transfer Station. The Department operates the Solid Waste Transfer Station, the Construction and Demolition Debris Landfill.
